Belong
For me to belong in Special Olympics,
First I’m an athlete
Because I want Special Olympics
To be the best I can make it to be
And I also try to help other athletes as much as I can.
Do I belong in Special Olympics?
I belong in Special Olympics
Because I’m an athlete
And I’m in ALPs.
Do you belong in Special Olympics?
Just for the medals
Or for doing your best?
Do you belong in Special Olympics?
Just for being around your friends
Or do you just like the competition?
Do you belong in Special Olympics?
To get you’re swimming times down
Or do you just like the exercise it beings?
For me belonging in the Special Olympics
Means I can help myself to help other athletes.
Give Us a Chance
If you don’t they won’t learn to dance.
If you pass us on the street
Say hi.
We will say hi back to you.
Some of us are shy to strangers.
But if you start the conversation
We just might say something back to you.
For, if you don’t give us a chance.
We won’t feel good about ourselves inside.
And not do the things we were met to do in life.
If no one encourages us to be the best we can be.
Or go beyond our boundaries of what we can do.
We won’t do anything to improve our lives.
Or won’t do things that keep us fit and active for our lives.
I Pray ...
I pray for all the lost souls that died that day.
I pray that we will not forget that terrible day.
I pray for all the policemen that did not come home that day.
I pray for all their families that will have faith for the rest of their days.
I pray for all the firefighters that risked their lives so that others might live another day.
I pray for all the souls to go to heaven and look down upon us every day for the rest of our lives.
I pray that we will all learn to cherish life to the fullest every day for the rest of our lives.
I pray for all the singles in this world to someday find someone to cherish for the rest of their lives.
I pray for all the married people in this world to cherish the one single love in their lives.
I pray for all the separated people in this world to find out that they just need to love each other.
I pray for all the divorced people in this world to try to find out why it happened in the first place.
I pray that my Grandma who has Depression will live out the rest of her life happy as when Grandpa was alive.
– Amen –
Be the Best You Can Be
You never know what tomorrow will bring.
You might just change the world.
For, if you don’t help out in this world
You will not know what you are missing.
Be the best you can be.
Showing others that Mentally Challenged people can do the same things as you
And maybe even more.
Because you are who God made you to be.
And no one else.
I am someone
I can do most things you can do.
I am just Mentally Challenged.
Having a disability does not stop me
From doing things I was meant to do.
I am someone who likes to swim
For the fitness it brings.
But needs help with my strokes.
You can be someone too
Celine Dion - Beauty And The Beast [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
This is my favorite Disney movie out of all of them.
It takes time to see someone as they really are.
Those with disability’s get jugged for what they are not who they are.
It need’s to be the other way around.
If you think those with down syndrome can’t get married, think again.
We can all makes this world a better place for are kids.
By teaching them that everyone is the same, no matter the race or disability.
When you see someone that makes fun of someone, say something.
Because most with intellectual disabilities can’t defend themselves.
Céline Dion - I'm Your Angel (Duet with R. Kelly)
Guardian Angel
I ask the question
Do we have Guardian Angels?
They are the ones that lesion to us
When we need someone the most
And tell us “You’ll be all right”
Guardian Angels are there
When we need them the most
Your faith will lead love where it has to go. –
Love will be the gift you give yourself. –
“Tell him” by Barbra Streisand (Duet with Celine Dion)
Believe
You put your mind to.
Believe in yourself
Because you are made in His image
And He wants you to do your best at whatever you do.
Believe you can reach the stars when you’re jumping.
Believe you can swim the English Channel
When you’re swimming a 100 free.
Believe you can bounce to the top of the moon
While you are playing bocce ball.
Believe you can hit the volleyball to the sun.
Believe you can put the horseshoe to dust.
Believe you can throw the basketball to the moon.
But most of all believe in yourself,
Because you are who you make yourself to be.
If you believe in yourself,
Then you can do and accomplish anything.
Faults
But never tell me how I can improve on my faults
Don’t get down on yourself
Because others tell you
What you’re doing wrong
Don’t beat yourself up
Because others told you
You did this or that wrong
Instead of doing something back
Ask “How can I improve myself”
Winner
Because it does not matter if you are black or white
Green or yellow or how you act or whether you have a disability or not.
You are a winner, because of who you are,
Not what you are.
Don’t let others tell you any different.
You are a winner
No matter if you win or lose.
If you win that’s great;
If you lose, you just have to work harder to win.
For me winning means getting my Swimming times down.
Some Athletes just care if they get first, 2nd, or third places.
They don’t pay attention about their strokes.
They just like winning,
But not me.
You can be more than just a winner.
There’s ALPs which gives me a sense of accomplishments.
I am more then a winner in ALPs,
Because I help make Special Olympics better in my County
And, I like helping others.
I Want the World to Know
Not as someone who has a disability.
I want the world to know me as a person
Who can do anything they can.
I want the to know
Those who are Mentally Challenged
Are just like you and me.
I want the world to know
Mentally Challenged people can do the same as anybody else
They’re just a little slower then you might be
And in different ways they may be better than you.
I want the world to know that
Every day after school I ask my mom “Why did God make me this way”.
I want the world to know that
God made each and every one of us who we are for a reason
And that reason might take you a lifetime to find out.
But you will find your reason why God made you who you are
And who you are to become
For He has a plan for everyone.
I want the world to know
I may not always understand why I write the things I write
But does God write through me
Or do I just think up this stuff out of the blue on my own?
Only time will tell
When I learn the truth.
You Can Be Someone like Me
Not because I have a handicap.
Not because I’m in the Special Olympics.
But because I try my hardest
To accomplish things in life.
By trying to help others the best way I can.
Buy helping the Special Olympics become better
For the athletes.
By helping my friends.
By being the best that I can be in life.
And more.
You can be someone like me
By trying to do the best you can be every day.
By helping others every day.
It does not matter what you do.
As long as you try and make this world a better place.
LIFE
Why does life seem to be so hard?
Why can’t I do anything right sometimes?
Why can’t life be on the easy track?
Why did God make me the way I am?
God made life so hard
So we would learn from our mistakes.
He wants us to find our own way in the world.
Even if it takes us a lifetime to find our own way
In this world.
If you’re still searching for answers.
Weather it’s looking for a job you enjoy
And, or being happy at that job.
Finding that one true place
Where you belong in life.
Or, finding and sharing for that one person
That’s like you and or for you.
Whatever it is in life you’re searching for.
Let God know.
He will answer you when you’re ready to hear Him.
Even if that may take what seems like a lifetime.
Give Him a chance and He will hear you.
So when you are at your worse.
Talk to God.
You may never know what might happen next.
I might have a hard time believing that.
But I will learn someday.
And you will too.
Friendship
Being there for them
When they need you the most.
Friendship is
Hanging out with that person
Just for fun.
Friendship is
Knowing when to care
About that person
At the right time.
Friendship is
Knowing when to share
Your stuff with that person
Friendship is
Knowing that you’ll be there for them
At the right moment.
Friendship is
Knowing when to share your feelings.
Friendship is
Knowing when to give that person
The right advice to give
Love Is to Me
Going Places
I look at the world anew
It is filled with wonderful colors
The weather changing,
Fall always makes a pretty picture
Leaves are changing
This also lets you see new things
That you have never seen before
Our lives get so busy
We don’t have the time
To just look at the stuff that we missed
We don’t take the time
To enjoy the things around us anymore
So, the next time your town
Has a Gallery Walk
Take the chance,
Enjoy the beauty
Time
I remember having the best time when I was little
After school some of the other kids
Would play around the block
Those were the good times
But where does all that time go
I really never wanted it to end
But we all grow up
Get jobs, start to have our own lives
Away from our parents
Others can’t leave
Because something is keeping them
From doing what they should do
They just need time and help
To find out what that is
What Life Wants
When I was a girl I didn’t understand
Why God made me with a disability
I just wanted to be like everyone else
I would come home from School,
Tell my mom
“Why did God make me this way”?
I understand now
That God wants me to teach
Others about Mentally Handicapped people
Like me, because they can’t
Yes, it takes me longer to learn
But I can learn
We all can learn
Some of us our just much slower than others
I would like people
To not judge others
Just because some are very different
I just needed some extra help starting out in life
I still do, just not as much
But others will need help
With simple everyday things for life
I long for a relationship
That I can share my feeling with
Which is hard for me to do
Because I lock my feelings up inside
When I was little,
I needed help to get them out
Writing is the only thing I can think of
And I’m a romantic at heart
Writing
From what I have been through
Writing my feelings down is all I can do
If you ask me how I was doing
I would say “I’m fine”
That’s the only way I know of to cope
People don’t know what it’s like
To be someone like me
To be made fun of
Just because you’re a little slower than them
Other kids have the same problems as me
They don’t like to show it
Buy they’re hurting like me
That’s why there’s Special Olympics
You can be who you are
And, not get made fun of
Only if more kids knew about Special Olympics
Then they would not get made fun of
They could just be who God made them to be
Writing is the only way
I know how to cope
For if not
I might go crazy
And, that’s the end of that
I Know…
I know what it’s like
To be
Of what you don’t want to do
Or of what you are not comfortable with
To go on with life
And be worried
I know what it’s like
To meet a guy
You have not seen
Since High School
You talk on the phone
You don’t like it
When he say’s he has kids
And he wants you to come over
To his house
You are not sure
And you get scared
He calls again and again
And you don’t answer
Because you are scared
Of being alone with him
We Are The World
We Owe the World
We owe the world
We owe the children
We owe the world to make a better life
For all the children
In this world we live in
Trying to save our own lives
Instead we should
Try to make a better world
For the children
We owe the children a future life
A world that’s clean
We owe them cars
That don’t run on gasoline
Quoting Martin L. King
“I have a dream that” Special Olympics
Will get the word out by
“Be a fan” campaign
Talking to all the schools,
With the kids, teachers,
And parents
Definitely the parents
We the athletes of Special Olympics
Need to go talk to the next generation of athletes
So we can keep Special Olympics going
On down the line
Cause if we don’t
We may lose our cause as being great
The way it is
Dad
I know that you can’t see
But it’s there
And I don’t want to let it go
Dad I want to get closer to you
But I don’t know where to start
So help me please understand what you do
Dad I am getting better at life
Or, at least trying to
Even if you don’t see it
Dad, I am trying my best
To go through life without any stumbles or falls
But I am learning very slowly
I may take some time
So just give me time
And we will see
I don’t know where I’m going
Or what I’m doing
But I’m trying my best
I might need help along the way
But I am sure I will find where I’m going someday
Celine Dion - The Prayer
Heaven
When I Get To Heaven
I want to see my grandpa’s face
So, it can be like old times
When I Get To Heaven
I want to be a kid again
I want God to tell me
Why he makes people the way He does
When I Get To Heaven
I want there to be the thing I most desire
When I Get To Heaven
I want to meet everyone
Who had to do anything with me
Learn
When we were little
We didn’t always get along
But I loved you anyway
And I always will
Even though I don’t say it
You became a Special Ed teacher because of me
I hope you teach your kids
The life skills they will need out of School
I know it’s hard at times
But you can do it
I believe in you
I know you want what everybody else has
And I do too
But it will all come upon you
In God’s time
But it will take me a long time
To get things together
And figure things out
I guess I don’t know where
To go with my life right now
But you do
And I’m proud of you for it
All of us kids will find someone someday
But it will take a long time yet
I believe we have to find ourselves first
Even if it takes us a lifetime
I know it will happen
For me writing is the only way
To express myself right now
That’s all I know

Trying to Get Home
Trying to get through the tough times in my life.
On the road to no-where.
Trying to get home.
I am in a hurry,
The road is wet,
So I go slow.
I’ve just came from the store,
Trying to get home.
I have a family waiting for me,
And I don’t want to crash.
Like I did before.
Trying to get home.
The drive is long.
It seems longer as I go.
I don’t want to stop,
For fear I won’t get home.
I dare don’t look over the edge,
For fear I might fall.
I don’t like it up here.
And just want to get home.
I wish I could get home,
By some sort of magic.
But it’s the real world,
And I know I can’t.
I know what I would do if I ever crashed.
Do you?
I just pray to God it never happens.
But if it did I would just pray,
I will be all right to live another day.
The New R-word is Respect
RESPECT
What does the word “RESPECT”
Mean to you?
To me, it mean’s
Don’t judge people
For what they are
But who they are inside
Because everyone deserves a chance
To be heard
But then there are those
That don’t RESPECT
Those with intellectual
By using the “R-WORD”.
I am not going to say it.
If you have watched “Tropic Thunder”
You will know what I mean
“Tropic Thunder” is out
And, “The Ringer” is in
Because Tropic Thunder
Makes fun of those with intellectual disabilities
No matter what Hollywood
Or, Ben Stiller says
They’re just in it for the money
Look at who the person is
Before you say anything
To that person
Because it just might be
Someone who will get you back
For what you say
“Sticks and stones
Won’t hurt my bones,
But words can be deadly”
If used wrong
World of Neglect
Different
You may not know it
But I am different
Different how you may ask
Because I don’t look it
And, some other people do
You see me every day
You may talk to me
But unless I told you
I have an intellectual disability
You will not know it
Some people You can tell right away
That they have an intellectual disability
They are just the same as you
Buy a little different
A lot of people
Still don’t want us in the world
Some still live in institutions across the world
Not given the chance to learn
They are misunderstood and mistreated
Just because they’re different
But given the chance
You will learn something uncommon
Then from most
That, you will just
Have to find it out for yourself
Ask yourself this one question
Why do people
Still use the word “retarded”?
That word to us is a hate word
Those who use it
Should use another word
People say the r-word does not hurt
Well think again
Did anyone ever say a word to you
You did not like
Now you know what it’s like
When those who say
The r-word
Who do you RESPECT?
The new r-word
Miley Cyrus - The Climb - Official Music Video (HQ)
This song by Miley Cyrus is a great song for Special Olympics athlete’s.
It takes most athlete’s years to get over that mountain.
Just to accomplish that one goal.
Then there are some that will never get to the goal the coach has set for them.
They just can’t be shown how to improve themselves.
But that does not matter to them. Those athlete’s just play sport’s for fun. They don’t care if they win or loose.
All athlete just want to have fun.
Some athlete’s or most will never get any better. But that does not matter to most.
All they care about is winning that 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place meddle.
Their’s some that cry when they don’t get one and get a ribbon.
Reba McEntire - Is There Life Out There
If you have ever heard the song “Is There Life Out There” by Reba McEntire (http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/reba-mcentire/is-there-life-out-there-16775.html) It is a song about a young woman who marries at twenty. And, she wonders if there’s life beyond her family and home. She wants something more in life besides her family. She search’s for a life she can be proud of, goes to college and graduates.
Do you ever feel lost?
That the world is going on without you?
That you are going on with your life.
But, you are not all there?
Are you searching for something?
But, don’t know what it is?
And you don’t know who to turn to.
Are you trying to find someone?
That you can easily talk to?
Like me, I just can’t tell someone my problems.
It’s got to come out when I’m not thinking about it.
Sometime I feel lost in this world
And I don’t know what to do
I know God will help me
Find my way back
To where I belong
It just might take a lifetime
I don’t like waiting
But, what can I do
Just wait and find out
Because who knows what will happen
A few years down the road

What Does Independence Day Means To You?
Independence is about more then freedom. It's knowing you would not be where you are today without it.
Independence is about being set free to be who God made you to be.
Independence is having your own say in everything you do and hear.
Independence, can we say we all have it?
We all have it, but their are still those with some disability's that can't use it. Those that still live in institution's can think for them self's but aren't given the chance to.
Year's ago doctor's said for us to be put away, like we were some kind of disease. That's all they new how to do and did not know a lot about us. Doctor's learned a lot about us, but they still have a lot to learn. It's down right rued that they still have to use the r-word (retarded). I know it's still in the dictionary but come on; it's about time tray use something alas.
So, now can you say we all have independence; NO. If you don't have the answer. It's because those with intellectual disabilities are still like the 'black's' trying to get free.
Would I be writing this if I were dumb, stupid, or retarded? I think not! Unlike what 'Tropic Thunder' said; I might be much slower then you and can't spell to save my life, but I am just like you. In more way's then one.
How many people can give a speech without reading notes?
How many people can swim all four storks in swimming?
How many people can write poems?
How many people can write what they think?
How many people can be an athlete, volunteer, or coach?
How many people are born special just to let others learn from them?
How many people can do all these things?
Those with intellectual disabilities should have are own Independence Day.
That day will be when we can all live in the world and not have to live in institution's any more.
