What Does Independence Day Means To You?

Independence to me mean's celebrating the day we american's were set free from the bad.

Independence is about more then freedom. It's knowing you would not be where you are today without it.

Independence is about being set free to be who God made you to be.

Independence is having your own say in everything you do and hear.

Independence, can we say we all have it?

We all have it, but their are still those with some disability's that can't use it. Those that still live in institution's can think for them self's but aren't given the chance to.

Year's ago doctor's said for us to be put away, like we were some kind of disease. That's all they new how to do and did not know a lot about us. Doctor's learned a lot about us, but they still have a lot to learn. It's down right rued that they still have to use the r-word (retarded). I know it's still in the dictionary but come on; it's about time tray use something alas.

So, now can you say we all have independence; NO. If you don't have the answer. It's because those with intellectual disabilities are still like the 'black's' trying to get free.

Would I be writing this if I were dumb, stupid, or retarded? I think not! Unlike what 'Tropic Thunder' said; I might be much slower then you and can't spell to save my life, but I am just like you. In more way's then one.

How many people can give a speech without reading notes?
How many people can swim all four storks in swimming?
How many people can write poems?
How many people can write what they think?
How many people can be an athlete, volunteer, or coach?
How many people are born special just to let others learn from them?
How many people can do all these things?

Those with intellectual disabilities should have are own Independence Day.
That day will be when we can all live in the world and not have to live in institution's any more.
